Residents have  noticed that the temporary flood defences, built and operated by Sedgemoor District Council,  have again been put in place in Blake Gardens.

A Sedgemoor spokesman says “This is to reassure elderly residents in St Saviour’s Avenue that their property should not flood over the Christmas period when higher tides are predicted.They are purely there as a precautionary measure, due to some bad weather predictions over the festive Season.”

The elderly residents in the low lying bungalows  St Saviours Avenue were first to be hit last year when Durleigh Brook overflowed on several occaisions as it  could not discharge into the River Parrett during to the high tides.

The Sedgemoor statement continues “Whilst the tides predicted over Christmas and the New Year are not so high, the residents are understandably worried so we considered it ‘better safe than sorry’.  We understand that his means no access to Blake Gardens from St Saviour’s Avenue, but hope that non-residents will understand.”
