Hidden Voices Bridgwater was set up to raise awareness of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. Globally there are around 50 million people held in Modern Slavery with around 150 thousand of those being in the UK. Hidden Voices attend community events and offer training for those wishing to learn about Modern Slavery, Human Trafficking and exploitation.  Organiser Sian Owen said “Over the past two years several potential victims have been identified as a result of our work and appropriate action to support them has been taken.”

Sian continued “On October 14th we organised an event to highlight Anti Slavery Day which is on October 18th every year. A group of people walked from the train station, a group of people walked from Holy Trinity Hamp all meeting by the Admiral Blake Statue at around midday. Walkers wore Anti Slavery Day T Shirts and banners were displayed at key points around the town. The illuminated sign by the Mercure hotel also displayed a message from Friday 13th until Friday 21st. This is the 5th year we have tried to highlight Anti Slavery Day and are grateful to those who have supported. Raising awareness is the first step in the fight against Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. Victims are Hidden in Plain sight and we urge people to educate themselves and learn how to spot the signs. We all have a social responsibility to play a part in the fight against Modern Slavery and the injustice of it.”
