Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, 21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022

“It is with great sadness we learnt of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, our longest reigning monarch. For all but a few of us she was the only sovereign we have ever known and will be greatly missed. On behalf of the people of Bridgwater I would like to convey our deepest sympathy to the Royal family at this sad time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. “

Seeding the Day on Saturday

Come on Down to the 4th Seed The Day Eco Market!  Each year it grows from strength to strength and has become an important part of Bridgwater Town Council’s diary of events. BTC Portfolio Holder for Climate Emergency , Cllr Kathy Pearce (Bridgwater Westover) says “Back in 2019, Bridgwater Town Council declared a Climate Emergency and since then has been committed to demonstrating that cutting carbon emissions and living healthily in a way that is kinder to the planet is achievable. On Saturday 10th September, between 10am and 3pm there will be a wide range of vegan products including foods, aromatherapy and bath products to tempt us all.   We are also pleased that a number of community stalls including Bridgwater Area Cycling Campaign, Men’s Shed, Somerset Wildlife Trust, RSPB, Woodland Trust and a seed and plant swap stall – among many others will also be there. Whether you are a vegan or not, we hope you will enjoy the day – maybe try something new or return to old favourites and stock up on products which aren’t readily available for the rest of the year!”

North Street Closure to end 12th September

Main A39 closed through Bridgwater at North street

Somerset County Council’s decision to ‘temporarily’ close North Street -part of the main A39 access from the west into Bridgwater, has proved very unpopular and councillors have been approached by numerous people with complaints. David Peake, County Highways supremo, said “The work that is being undertaken on site is highway drainage work, promoted by Sedgemoor Highways Office. Somerset County Council  have made an Order prohibiting all traffic from proceeding along North Street – from the junction with Camden road, south eastwards for a total distance of 40 metres. This Order will enable Milestone Infrastructure to carry out structural maintenance – Drainage Works.”

…should re-open 12th September

When asked when it will end, we were told “The Order became effective on 23rd August 2022 and will remain in force for eighteen months. The works are expected to commence on 30th August 2022 and last until 12th September 2022 between the hours of 00:00 – 23:59 for a total of 14 days.”

Please visit https://one.network/?tm=128680675 for further information on the alternative route.

For information about the works being carried out please contact Somerset Highways on telephone number 0300 123 2224 quoting reference number ttro449863SE.

The Men’s Shed is situated in Westover ward alongside the Canal just off the Old Taunton Road. It’s been up and running for several years  but was largely mothballed during the covid years. Today they came bursting back onto the Bridgwater scene with an ‘Open Day’ to remind people exactly what they offer and how they can enrich the community in and around our town. Several Town Councillors dropped in to see them headed by Mayor Cllr Liz Leavy, and including Westover Councillors Kathy Pearce & Brian Smedley and Fairfax councillors Alex Glassford & Richard Morgan.
