Seeding the Day on Saturday

Come on Down to the 4th Seed The Day Eco Market!  Each year it grows from strength to strength and has become an important part of Bridgwater Town Council’s diary of events. BTC Portfolio Holder for Climate Emergency , Cllr Kathy Pearce (Bridgwater Westover) says “Back in 2019, Bridgwater Town Council declared a Climate Emergency and since then has been committed to demonstrating that cutting carbon emissions and living healthily in a way that is kinder to the planet is achievable. On Saturday 10th September, between 10am and 3pm there will be a wide range of vegan products including foods, aromatherapy and bath products to tempt us all.   We are also pleased that a number of community stalls including Bridgwater Area Cycling Campaign, Men’s Shed, Somerset Wildlife Trust, RSPB, Woodland Trust and a seed and plant swap stall – among many others will also be there. Whether you are a vegan or not, we hope you will enjoy the day – maybe try something new or return to old favourites and stock up on products which aren’t readily available for the rest of the year!”

Seed the Day was the initiative of former Westover Town Councillor Li Gibson and is run in conjunction with Vegan Fairs. Previous events can be found here.

Daisy Botha from Vegan Fairs says “We are delighted to be working with Bridgwater Town Council for the 4th year running to bring you Seed The Day. We are so proud to be able to bring so many eco-conscious businesses and organisations to Bridgwater town centre and are always so inspired by all the important planet-saving conversations we witness. This year we’ve managed to reduce our carbon footprint by only working with traders who live within 70 miles and completely cutting out single use plastics.”

Vegan or Not

Cllr Brian Smedley, leader of Bridgwater Town Council “the hats quite green…”

Cllr Brian Smedley (Westover) Leader of the Council adds “It can be quite a hard choice to decide to become vegan or vegetarian..but nobody’s saying you have to. The festival is all about providing the information and the examples so people can consider it as an option. One things for certain, we have to make some major choices to save the planet.”

Cllr Tim Mander (Westover) says “Whilst I am not a vegan I appreciate the ecological and health benefits of a plant based diet. As such I welcome the opportunity that this festival will offer to explore the options of living a more sustainable plant based life style.”

New Councillor Richard Morgan (Fairfax East) who is on the Climate Change Group at BTC says “If you want to reduce the amount of suffering in the world, going vegan is one of the most impactful things you can do”.

Climate campaigner Glen Burrows, a member of the Bridgwater Transport Forum adds “Bridgwater Area Bus Group will be present, as part of Somerset Catch the Bus Week, with timetables, information and a survey on bus use. Changing from cars to public transport is a vital part of the fight against pollution and climate change”

Cllr Pearce adds “Along with Seed The Day, Bridgwater Town Council is working hard to be climate friendly.  Actions taken so far have been: introducing a Tree Fund, going Pesticide Free, introducing a Single Use Plastics Policy and recently holding our first Green Week.”
“Further actions to follow! Please help us to help the planet and we look forward to seeing you there.”
