The Town Council ward of Victoria stretches from the Docks to the NDR and includes the Newtown estate along Kendale Road and Chilton Street. The Town Councillors for Victoria are Liz Marsh & Mick Lerry.

“Bridgwater 1900 -1910” a Talk by Dave Chapple

Bridgwater socialist historian Dave Chapple is giving another of his famous Bridgwater social history talks at the May meeting of the Civic Society this Wednesday, May 8th at 7.30pm at the Victoria Park Community Centre. Admission is £3 for non members. The talk is entitled ‘BRIDGWATER 1900-1910’.

Dave says “As well as significant events such as the unveiling of the Blake Statue by Lord Brassey in 1900, the great flood of 1904, the arrival of electric light in the town, proposals for a light railway to Nether Stowey, celebrations at the ‘Relief of Mafeking,’ I will cover the near riot of the ‘Kensitites’ outside St John’s Church, and, last but not least, the sensational Liberal General Election victory in January 1906, “

Local Pantry Anniversary at Victoria Community Centre

Councillors Mick Lerry & Liz Marsh help stock up the new Victoria Pantry on opening day

VPLP is part of the Somerset Local Pantry Network (SLPN), who buy and collect surplus food and make it available to members for a low weekly fee. Each local pantry helps reduce food waste and makes food affordable for local families which saves them money. A small celebration took place to mark the birthday which welcomed guests including, Cllr Theo Butt Philip, Lead Member responsible for Partnerships and Localities at Somerset Council, the Mayor of Bridgwater, Cllr Mick Lerry and Mayoress of Bridgwater, Cllr Liz Marsh, along with the pantry’s staff and volunteers who all enjoyed speeches, a cake cutting and raffle.
